Centro de Innovación Marino
Fundación Grupo Punta Cana - Dominican Republic
The Grupo Punta Cana Foundation is dedicated to addressing the most challenging environmental concerns facing the Dominican Republic. A founding party of several Dominican environmental conservation organizations, FGPC leads by example both on land and under the sea. In 2021-2022, a full renovation of the life support systems at the Centro de Innovatión Marino now provides FGPC with the weather-tested infrastructure necessary to meet their larger coral out-plant goals.

Outdoor Greenhouse System
The FGPC greenhouse was renovated to provide a safe environment for coral fragments to acclimate to rising ocean temperatures.
Climate control features and updated seawater filtration protect young corals from the harshest summer months.
From the greenhouse, corals are then out planted back onto the reef.

Indoor Micro-Fragmentation Laboratory
Full renovation of the FGPC indoor lab significantly increased its coral holding capacity. Implementing state of the art technology, the updated lab is equipped with fully programable life support systems, filtered seawater access, and a 20 kilowatt backup generator. This laboratory currently houses hundreds of newly fragmented corals as they grow large enough for the greenhouse.

Seawater Storage and Filtration System
During weather events of extreme heat, when inshore water becomes inviable,
backup filtered seawater storage provides immediate relief for sensitive corals.
